Rooted in Grace
At St. James, we believe that God’s grace is for everyone.
As a congregation of The United Methodist Church, we are part of a worldwide community of Christians seeking to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. We believe that God’s grace meets us before we even know to seek it, transforms our lives through Jesus Christ, and continues shaping us by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Our faith is grounded in Scripture, informed by Christian tradition, enriched by reason, and confirmed through experience. We believe faith is something to be lived each day through worship, prayer, compassion, justice, generosity, and service.
What We Believe
We believe in:
God, who created and loves every person.
Jesus Christ, who reveals God's love and offers grace, hope, and new life.
The Holy Spirit, who continues to guide and transform the Church.
The Bible as the primary witness to God's saving work and the foundation of our faith.
The Church as the Body of Christ, called to worship, grow, serve, and share God's love with the world.
God's grace, which is freely given to everyone and continually invites us into deeper relationship with God and one another.
What We Value
We strive to be a church where people can:
Worship wholeheartedly. Gather around Word, prayer, music, and Holy Communion to encounter God’s presence.
Grow faithfully. Deepen faith through Scripture, study, prayer, and lifelong discipleship.
Serve joyfully. Share Christ’s love through acts of compassion, justice, generosity, and service in our community and throughout the world.
Love generously. We seek to reflect the love of Christ by treating every person with dignity, compassion, and respect. We believe every person is created in the image of God and has sacred worth. We are committed to extending Christ’s welcome to all who seek to grow in faith, ask questions, and become part of our community.
A United Methodist Church
St. James is proud to be part of The United Methodist Church.
Our congregation has remained committed to the United Methodist connection through recent denominational changes because we believe our connectional ministry, Wesleyan theology, and shared mission are gifts that strengthen the Church’s witness. As a Lighthouse Congregation, we have sought to be a place of stability, hope, and welcome for those looking for a church home during times of change.
We continue to believe God calls the Church to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ, make disciples, care for our neighbors, and work for the healing of the world.
