Welcome

Whether you’re looking for a church home, returning to church after some time away, or simply curious about what worship at St. James is like, we’re grateful you’re considering a visit. We know walking into a new church can feel intimidating. Our hope is that you’ll find St. James to be a place where you are warmly welcomed, invited to worship, and free to simply be yourself.

Wherever you are on your journey of faith, there's a place for you here.

Worship Times

Common Thread Worship

Sundays at 9:15 a.m.
Carson Hall

Common Thread is a contemporary worship service that blends the richness of Christian liturgy with a relaxed atmosphere and modern music. You’ll find Scripture, prayer, and preaching alongside contemporary songs and a welcoming, casual environment.

Traditional Worship

Sundays at 11:00 a.m.
Sanctuary

Our traditional service offers beloved hymns, historic liturgy, choir music, and thoughtful preaching in a beautiful sanctuary setting. Rooted in the traditions of the Church while open to God's ongoing work, this service invites us to worship with reverence, joy, and hope.

Where to Find Us

3808 St. James Church Rd. Raleigh, NC 27604

Our campus offers two parking areas with clear signage. Parking is available beside Carson Hall, with additional overflow parking on the grass as needed, as well as in front of the Sanctuary and Chapel.

Accessible parking spaces and wheelchair-accessible entrances are available from both parking lots.

What Should I Wear?

You’ll see people wearing everything from jeans and sneakers to dresses, jackets, and ties. There is no dress code at St. James—come dressed in whatever helps you feel comfortable and ready to worship.

What About My Children?

Children are an important part of our church family, and they are always welcome in worship. We believe a child’s laughter, curiosity, and questions are gifts to the whole congregation. Nursery care is available during both worship services for our youngest children, and Children's Sunday School is offered between the two services.

St. James is committed to creating safe, welcoming, and nurturing spaces for children. All staff and volunteers who work with children and youth follow our Safe Sanctuaries policies and procedures.

Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to participate fully in the life of the church. Our campus is all on one level and is easily accessible for those using wheelchairs, walkers, or mobility scooters. Accessible parking and entrances are available, and we continue to look for ways to make worship and church life welcoming for people of all abilities. If there is a way we can better accommodate your needs, please don't hesitate to contact us before your visit.

Holy Communion

At St. James, Christ’s table is open to everyone.

As a congregation of The United Methodist Church, we celebrate Open Table, which means you do not have to be a member of St. James—or of any church—to receive Holy Communion. If you seek God's grace, you are welcome at the Lord's Table. We typically celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month, as well as on other special occasions throughout the year. We believe Communion is one of the ways God meets us with grace, nourishes our faith, and draws us closer to Christ and to one another.

What You Won’t Find at St. James:

You won’t be expected to have all the answers.

You won’t be singled out or put on the spot.

You won’t be expected to look, think, or have your life all together before you walk through our doors.

What we hope you’ll find is a community seeking to follow Jesus together—one that welcomes questions, values every person, and believes God’s grace is already at work in every life.
